[edit] Stone Age (Tribal Stage 1)
The beginning of true Talpan civilization, the Stone Age marked the point of sentience. Continuing upon their simple burrows from the creature stage, the Talpa also developed their Herds into Tribes. The simple burrows were built upward and the burrows simplified from enormous complexes to small family buildings. The huts utilized the packed dirt from tunneling to create domes which would eventually become a part of nature. The mounds resembled natural hills excluding the entrance holes. The primitive huts offer little more than basic protection from the elements. Tools also follow the primitive forms of the age. The Talpa still use their own natural claws for digging making no improvement upon that part of their nature. Near the end of this age, the families gravitate towards each other and form small groups connecting their underground huts through small tunnels. Privacy remains a minor issue and clothing has yet to even be discovered. Furniture is also a premium, limiting itself to either a mound of dirt or a dip in the floor. Rocks have also become a basic material but shaping and molding are far off as the deep stones found while tunneling can't be shaped by grounding or pounding as they are far too dense and must either be heated or melted. The period lasted a bit longer than most races but the Talpa make up for it by advancing fast farther ahead in the time line. Brief burrowing and experimenting with volcanic veins lead to minor smelting of pliable metals. The Talpa move on to the Bronze Age after this major discovery.
