Content:Sunwatcher tree
From SporeWiki, the knowledge base dedicated to Spore
This bizarre plant gets its name because its fern-like branches only grow out of 2 sides and are arranged so that the leaves face the general directionary path of the sun. Experts are not sure how and why the sunwatcher evolved the way it did. One theory is that aiming all the leaves in such a manner is more efficient for gathering sunlight than a random arrangement of leaves facing all different directions to maximize the chance that at least a majority of the leaves obtain sunlight. This is similar to solar collectors, which have to be positioned so that the maximum surface area is facing the sun.
