[edit] Purpose
- These Photophoids (a plant like organism created by the Vexarions) were meant to be (near) sapient soldiers; nothing more, nothing less. Their only purpose is to fight. The Photophoid Project was secretly started by the Vexarion government in order to protect their settlements and allies.
[edit] Morphology
They have small bodies with two slender leaves on their backs for photosynthesis. Their arms are thin at the shoulders, but widen out and end in three vine-like fingers. These fingers are very flexible, and can be used as thumbs. Their two feet are very similar, minus the fingers, and end in a single claw serving the purpose of a toe; to keep balance. They have oval heads and two eyes. Also, protruding from the back of their heads, are two electrified vines. They are also coated in microscopic hairs that are able to bend light and make them invisible.
Psychology
Battle Photophoids are sentient, with few limitations. For example, mental restraints prevent them from harming Vexarions. One interesting thing is that the typical soldier can only receive orders, and is only able to give them when their commander dies and they are most qualified to become the new commander, or they are upgraded. The commander, however, cannot receive any orders from soldiers, but can give them to soldiers. Though they are physical duplicates of each other, they are completely different mentally.
Programs
Programs are given to Photophoids at creation, and alter their functions. They can grant fins, night vision, poison, and many other things.
[edit] Technology
Photophoids did not develop any of their technology; it was made by the Vexarions. Their technology is generally divided into three classes: Armor, Armaments, and Vehicles.
Armor
Each battle Photophoid is given a customizable suit of armor. The standard includes energy pistols and energy blades in the wrist (both are retractable), a HUD, a jet booster, explosives launchers, a concussion wave generator, and other little gizmos, such as shoulder mounted lights, and water storage.
Armaments
Photophoid armaments range from pistols to interstellar missile launchers. Hand-held weapons usually fire concentrated plasma, but variations do exist. Some fire lengthy laser beams, and others are capable of emitting poisons into the air (Photophoids do not breathe, so this does not harm them). Bigger weapons, such as those that orbit planets are able to destroy entire stars. They can launch huge spheres of plasma, emit a wave of destructive energy, or even fire missiles from planet to planet.
Vehicles
There are no ways to give examples of vehicles as they are built specifically for one mission, and then launched as debris at their target on a different mission. Their functions vary widely, and their structures are usually very sleek and pointed. Larger vehicles can have crews of thousands of Photophoids, while smaller fighters usually have crews of five; one to pilot the ship, one to fire the weapons, one to communicate, one to navigate, and one to operate the shields. They can cooperate flawlessly, however, as they have a single linked nervous system.
[edit] Failed Prototypes
The current Photophoid is actually ninth in a line of Photophoids. The other eight models were flawed, and their specifications are kept under lock and key by the Vexarion government, mostly to save face.
