[edit] Biology
The Arachnik evolved from large 'super spiders' these spiders were one of the prime carnivores on the planet at the time. As time passed, the upper six legs became smaller, one pair of which developed into 'arms' and the others became vestigial and useless. The other pair of legs allowed the spider to become a biped, which increased its speed.
[edit] Senses
The brain of the 'super spider' became progressively larger as other species became more competitive. The present day Arachnik has still its eight eyes, however two have more of an active role. The others can sense radiation, heat, and chemical changes. The Arachnik have a powerful sense of hearing. But have not any smell receptors, which is why they rely on their sight to notice changes in chemicals.
The Arachnik have a 'hive mind' complex, however it is not as present today. Those with intelligence and high stature are not trained to listen to the hive mind, where as those in low military or labour careers are trained to listen.

The Arachnik became more intelligent and as a result they developed social groups quickly. Leading to a tribe like status. Their customs bred new Arachnik children for hunting and attack. A custom of ancient Arachnik culture is to have the young fight to the death for their place in the colony. This technique has ensured only the strong and or smart have the power.
[edit] Development of the 'Hive Mind'
The tribal leaders were of the strongest and highest mental capacity, as such, some had the ability to manipulate other Arachnik's thoughts. This ablity is continued today. However there are strict laws in place to govern who uses it.
[edit] Sarnex the black
Sarnex the black is known as a relative 'devil/demon' in Arachnik culture. He however is debatably the trigger for the ascendance of the Arachnik into civilisation.
Sarnex the the black was a first born, the first borns are in Arachnik culture destined to be the new leaders of the tribes. And they all are destined to fight one another to gain their power in society.
Sarnex had, in his early life, killed all the other first borns of his generation in their sleep, instead of fighting them in battle. This was considered by many as a dishonorable move. And as such he was exiled from the tribe. Sarnex wandered the swamps of Ach'nos for years, scavenging and becoming more and more feral. His lack of housing and dirty lifestyle gave him the name Sarnex the black.
A large carnivore was moving close to the tribal village, upon discovering the village, it attacked. The tribe and all those in it were doomed. Sarnex heard the sounds of the attack and came to the village. He killed the creature and saved the tribe.
As a result of this he was welcomed back by the elders and was offered a place on the council.
Some Arachnik historians believe that Sarnex actually lured the creature to the tribe.
[edit] The Web War
Upon the addition of Sarnex the black to the tribal elders council, a mass schism erupted beetween the Arachnik, causing a massive war beetween those loyal to Sarnex, and those who did not want Sarnex in the council. The Web War ended when Sarnex the black was crushed beneath a massive stone. The war caused a huge loss of life, and was the 'beginning of true Arachnik civilisation' according to most Arachnik historians.
The web war brought the tribes together, and civilised them. However the culture was still predominantly agressive. The Arachnik developed a strong sense of honour after the war, which could be likened to the human Japanese culture on Earth.
However those who had joined Sarnex were trialled and immediately afterwards executed. The plea of 'I was under the control of his hive mind' was not accepted. Some in modern day Arachnik culture still see Sarnex as a hero, and that he should be worshipped.
[edit] Age Of Enlightenment
The Arachnik settled in a great city around the stone that had killed the 'demon'. And soon they moved away from the first born tribal phase into an 'Age of Enlightenment'. They developed a democratic republic, where the leaders were chosen by their skills and not through bloody murder. Research and intelligence work increased to phenominal levels. The invention of the blood engine made industry boom, the Arachnik were industrious and content.

The age of enlightenment caused a species of unknown aliens to visit the Arachnik race. They contacted the Arachnik with a large light display over the capital of We'boa, the aliens (known to the Arachnik as the Gear) landed outside the city to greet the prime minister. This meeting is described as the turning point at which the Arachnik devolved into a war mongering species again. The meeting at 3:43:21 PM was ended by a pro-sarnex activist suicide bombing the event. Killing both the 'Gear' ambassador and the prime minister.
[edit] Aftermath of the first contact incident
The first contact incident led to a retaliation by the Gear, they massively damaged the planet. Through heavy bombing and powerful abilities. They left soon afterwards.
What was left was a decaying wasteland of ruins. The Arachnik entered an economic depression, and the government fell apart. With no strong leading party, the goverment was reduced to a poorly created coalition that could not decide on anything. The Arachnik people were desperate for a solution.
[edit] The rise of UAEAX
The radical group UAEAX (United Arachnik Empire Against Xenos), led by General Sarnoxi. Showed the Arachnik people a way though the sudden depression they were in. Despite their 'old tribal' ideals. In the elections the year after the first contact, they were in power with a 90% majority.
[edit] Sarnoxi's Public Address
My people, Arachnik, the Gear have ravaged our world. And why? Because, and I hate to admit it, we have become weak. The strength of our race has been lost over the years, it has been hidden beneath the so called culture we have developed. We should not hide from our agressive past, but embrace it. We have seen first hand that we are not alone in the universe, and what they will do to us. We will need to be strong to face the creatures out there, to defend ourselves against them, and to crush all of those that oppose our ironfisted rule. You have shown me that you will follow me, and I promise you that the Arachnik can and will be strong once again! AND WE WILL HAVE REVENGE ON THE GEAR!
[edit] Securing Power
Sarnoxi introduced the 'Emergency Powers Act', which granted him the power to pass any laws he needed to. He then created a secret police and introduced conscription into the army. He created a research programme for interstellar travel called project 'Kratos'.
Sarnoxi then instituted a change in government from the republic to a dictatorship. By this time, all opposition had been crushed. He then revealed that he had tapped into the lost power of the hive mind, which he used to enslave any that opposed him.

By the third year, the Kratos Project had created a viable space faring vehicle. They colonised the orbiting moon, on which the created a massive rotation missle platform to protect the homeworld. The military style of UAEAX made sure that Arachnik research was mainly for the benefit of the army.
[edit] Sarnoxi the everliving
Sarnoxi, who was slowly losing his life force, demanded that the Kratos project would move away from space faring technologies and research a way to keep him alive. They were sucessful, and as such Sarnoxi has been kept alive and in control of the Arachnik people for many years up to present day. But, it has left him imobilised and his only way of control is to use the hive mind, which he has perfected.
[edit] The destruction of the Gears
Sarnoxi sent a battle fleet to the search and destroy the Gear race. They first found the gears on a planet very close to them. The Arachnik fleet carpet bombed the planet. But it had little effect on the Gear, as they were heavily protected. The fleet commander Va'lek consulted Sarnoxi by the Hive Mind. Sarnoxi's mind was powerful, and after the many years he had been in reign he had learnt much. On his command, Va'lek filled the atmosphere of the planet with carbon dioxide. This quickly choked the planet, causing intense and extreme global warming. Burning the planet to a crisp. Soon after this, more victories over the Gears were acheived, culminating in the destruction of the gears homeworld.
