The Alptraum is a bipedal herbivore. The tail is about 5 feet long and muscular. The legs are short and do not promote speed. The front of the animal curves up like a centaur and carries the head and 6 arms. 4 of them have curved spikes, and the top 2 have grasping hands. The head is small with a crest. There are 3 fins on the Alptraum's back.

The Alptraum's name is German for "nightmare", because that is exactly what it is to a carnivore looking for a meal.

Alptraum are very social, so they do not have territories. They as a species are able to survive anywhere on the planet they live on, Shannara.

The possibility of the Alptraum becomeing sapient is very small, due to the lack of brain room.
